Modi-Carney Talks Forge Stronger India-Canada Pact, Uranium Deal Signed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at Hyderabad House in New Delhi for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening the India-Canada strategic partnership. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on Carney to praise his commitment to a forward-looking partnership between the two nations.

The leaders reviewed progress across diverse areas and announced a landmark agreement on long-term uranium supplies for civil nuclear energy. They also firmed up the terms of reference for a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, aiming to double two-way trade by 2030. Beyond energy, both sides agreed to cooperate on critical minerals and explore collaborations in small modular reactors and advanced reactor technology.

Carney arrived in Mumbai for a four-day India visit, signaling a broader push into the Indian market. Modi noted that while the West Asia region faces serious security challenges, India will pursue resolution through dialogue and diplomacy, and will work with all countries to ensure the safety of Indian citizens abroad. The two leaders stressed shared democratic values and a commitment to diversity as they chart a path for closer ties.
