Tech Giants Pledge Billions in India to Boost AI and Jobs
Tech giants launch multi-billion bets in India, pledging millions of jobs, export growth, and AI-led transformation across digital sectors.
India is set for a tech investment surge as Amazon, Microsoft, Google and other global players unveil multi-billion plans aimed at accelerating AI, cloud infrastructure, and digital growth. Amazon has announced a fresh $35 billion investment push to 2030, on top of roughly $40 billion it has already invested, with a target to enable $80 billion in cumulative exports and to support about 3.8 million jobs by 2030. Amit Agarwal, Amazon's Senior Vice President for Emerging Markets, highlighted that all of Amazon's businesses in India are thriving—from Prime Video and MX Player to Fire TV Stick and Alexa—and that AI is the biggest disruption of our lifetime.
Meanwhile, the wider push is being led by the US tech giants. Microsoft has pledged about $17.5 billion to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in India, promising more than 3 lakh new jobs. Google is following with a plan around $15 billion to boost digital innovation and create tens of thousands of opportunities (2.5 lakh+). Apple is accelerating its manufacturing footprint as part of the broader push, while Amazon's momentum underlines India's growing centrality to their global strategies.
Separately, Microsoft is projecting a larger map for India with over $20 billion in investments that span AI infrastructure, IT partnerships, and a massive skilling push aimed at tens of millions of learners. Taken together, these moves position India as a central pillar of global tech strategy—one where digital exports and jobs are expected to rise in step with AI adoption.
Experts warn that turning these pledges into the hoped-for jobs and faster growth will require policy backing, a robust digital backbone, and broad upskilling programs that reach both city centers and rural areas. Still, the momentum is hard to ignore, signaling a long-term bet on India's tech talent and consumer market, with Bengaluru poised to play a key role in implementation.
