Bengaluru residential school owner, principal arrested in POCSO case
Three people including the school's owner and its principal are arrested under POCSO after a Class 8 student alleges sexual abuse at a Devanahalli residential school; police say more victims may exist.
Three people — the owner, his wife, and a teacher at a Devanahalli residential school — have been arrested in connection with a minor's alleged sexual abuse, police said on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as the school's owner, Dhananjay, his wife, Shailaja, the principal of the institution, and a teacher, Tabassum.
The arrests followed a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, with allegations of sexual harassment and attempts to suppress the matter.
The owner allegedly entered the girls' dormitory late at night in an intoxicated state and sexually harassed a minor student. The residential institution reportedly houses more than 700 students.
Only one victim has formally come forward and recorded her statement so far. The parents approached the local police station and lodged a formal complaint, prompting the investigation under POCSO.
Investigators said they are examining whether there are additional victims, and the scope of the inquiry will be expanded if more complaints are received.
