In Phaltan, a 29-year-old government hospital medical officer died by suicide, leaving a palm note that alleged she was raped four times by Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane and harassed for five months by the landlord’s son, Prashant Bankar. The doctor had been living as a paying guest in Vidyanagar, Phaltan, when the tragedy occurred in a hotel room on a Thursday night. Bankar, a software engineer by background, was later arrested after being found at a friend's farmhouse near Pune and is set to be produced in court. Badane remains absconding, with police continuing the search for him as part of the same case. Preliminary inquiries indicate the doctor and Bankar were in a relationship that deteriorated over time, with investigators noting contacts through calls and messages shortly before the incident. Bankar’s arrest is expected to bring crucial evidence to light about the events leading up to her death, according to officers. The doctor’s family has alleged political interference in the case, claiming a local MP attempted to influence the investigation through an intermediary, though police have not confirmed this. The broader investigation continues as officials work to piece together the sequence of harassment, the alleged assault, and the factors that culminated in the tragedy.
