Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh has voiced strong confidence that the final electoral roll, slated for publication on September 6, will be both inclusive and completely error-free. This assurance comes just a day after the Election Commission published the draft rolls, which notably excluded 1,58,677 names, a significant number that has garnered attention across the state.
The draft rolls, published on Sunday, July 5, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enumeration phase, retained a total of 19.34 lakh voters. For those who found their names missing from this draft list, there's a window of opportunity. Claims and objections can be filed starting from July 5 and continuing until August 4, allowing citizens to ensure their voting rights are accurately reflected.
Chief Minister Singh's remarks came after he attended a workshop on SIR Phase II held at the BJP State office. During the event, he reiterated his belief in the thoroughness of the exercise. “I am confident that the final electoral roll will be accurate and inclusive,” Mr. Singh stated, emphasizing the Manipur Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting “free, fair, transparent, and credible elections.”
High-profile attendees at the workshop included State BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP A. Sharda Devi, Home Minister K. Govindas Singh, former MP Vinod Sonkar, and several MLAs and senior BJP leaders, underscoring the importance the party places on this revision. While the Chief Minister's office projects a smooth and accurate outcome, it's worth noting that a Kuki organization in Manipur has expressed opposition to the SIR of electoral rolls, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing process. The state awaits the final publication with keen interest.
