Chase, who was also known by her birth name Daveigh Schwallier, died at the age of 35 on June 17th in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office has now officially confirmed her cause of death as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, or AIDS.
This confirmation comes after initial reports from Chase's manager, John Ryan Jr., who had stated last week that she died from sepsis following meningitis in an LA hospital. The discrepancy has now been clarified by official medical findings.
Chase began her acting career at a remarkably young age, securing her first Hollywood role at seven after starting at four. Her talent quickly shone through, leading to a small but memorable part in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." Her true breakthrough came in 2001 with her role as Samantha Darko in "Donnie Darko," a character she reprised in the 2009 sequel, "S. Darko."

In the same year, she brought to life the endearing, Elvis-adoring Hawaiian girl Lilo in "Lilo & Stitch," a role that garnered her an Annie Award for Best Voice Acting. She continued to lend her voice to the character in various spin-offs.
While her early career was marked by significant success, Chase retired from full-time acting in 2015. The Hollywood Reporter noted that later in her life, she faced several legal challenges, including charges for drug possession and joyriding in a stolen car.
