India's 2047 Dream: PM Modi's Saptadhara & Banking's Crucial Role!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently marked India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort by unveiling an ambitious roadmap for the nation's next decade of growth. He introduced 'Saptadhara', outlining seven crucial streams of strength poised to propel India towards achieving the vision of 'Viksit Bharat', a developed India, by the year 2047.
These seven pillars are broad and comprehensive, encompassing key sectors like manufacturing and agriculture, robust technology and connectivity infrastructure, a strong defense sector, clean energy initiatives, and the leveraging of India's unique soft power. The Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for India to build domestic capabilities across these domains and to enhance its competitive edge on the global stage.
With global landscapes rapidly transforming due to advancements in supply chains, Artificial Intelligence, robotics, data centers, and green energy, Modi articulated these priorities as essential drivers for India's journey to becoming a developed nation.
Echoing the importance of a unified national effort towards this monumental goal, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also highlighted the critical role of India's banking sector in realizing the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision. Speaking at PSB Confluence 2026, Sitharaman stated that a high-powered committee focused on banking for 'Viksit Bharat' is expected to be announced very soon.
This committee will be instrumental in formulating recommendations and strategies based on extensive discussions among leaders from public sector banks and financial institutions.
Sitharaman underscored that the Indian banking sector is currently in a position of significant strength, with Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) at their lowest-ever levels. This robust financial health presents a unique opportunity for banks to undertake further reforms and actively contribute to the nation's developmental agenda.
She urged banking leaders to proactively shape the future direction of India's financial system, ensuring it serves as a powerful engine for achieving the ambitious targets set for a developed India by 2047.
