Two Russians Die as Ukraine Drone Attacks Hit Border Regions
Ukrainian drone strikes hit Rostov-on-Don and Belgorod, killing two and wounding several, as Kyiv targets energy infrastructure amid ongoing border clashes.
Two people were killed, and several were wounded after Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia’s border regions, local authorities said on Wednesday. In Rostov-on-Don, a drone attack sparked a fire in a residential building, and the governor reported the body of a man among the charred remains. Four others, including a four-year-old, were wounded in strikes elsewhere in the Rostov region, which sparked fires in several industrial areas.
In the border Belgorod region, a woman was killed and a man wounded when a Ukrainian drone struck a vehicle, the regional governor wrote on Telegram. Russia has been repeatedly hit by Ukrainian drones as Kyiv says its strikes aim at crippling the energy infrastructure used to finance Moscow’s war.
Russia has responded with its own military actions, intensifying strikes on Ukraine’s power grid in freezing temperatures, while Ukrainian authorities say the drone campaign is ongoing and that they continue to target energy facilities to disrupt Moscow’s war effort. Kyiv has also claimed to have destroyed a Russian drone facility in the Rostov region, describing the move as reducing Moscow’s capacity to produce drones and strike civilian targets on Ukrainian territory.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on the broader strikes, emphasized that Russia must learn that cold will not win the war, as energy infrastructure and civilian areas remain under pressure on both sides. The episodes underscore the high-stakes drone warfare along the border, with civilians bearing the brunt of renewed hostilities and both sides warning of further retaliation.
