Kochi, Kerala is reeling from a shocking incident as two individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged drugging and gang-raping of a woman at a lodge in Edappally. The horrific event unfolded after the victim was lured with the promise of a job at a spa.
Police have identified the arrested suspects as Sreeraj, 30, from Karthikappally, Alappuzha, and Jith Martin, 27, from Thrikkakara, Ernakulam. They were taken into judicial custody on Sunday, October 4, 2026, just two days after the alleged crime.
According to police reports, the woman had attended an interview at the spa on Friday, October 2, 2026.
She had responded to an online advertisement seeking a manager.
After being told she was selected, she was invited to the lodge later that evening for an 'informal gathering'.
It was during this gathering that the alleged crime occurred.
The victim was reportedly forced to consume alcohol that was spiked with drugs before being sexually assaulted. Disturbingly, she was then confined to the room until the following day.
District Police Chief (Kochi City), Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar, addressed the media, stating that the woman was initially in shock and hesitant to file a complaint. The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by her friend. A medical examination confirmed multiple injuries consistent with sexual abuse.
The survivor also revealed that there was a woman among the group involved.
Investigators suspect that the arrested men are part of a larger sex racket that operates through certain spas. A search operation is currently underway to apprehend two other individuals believed to be involved, including the woman mentioned by the survivor. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers lurking behind seemingly legitimate job opportunities online.
