Chinese AI Chipmaker Enflame's IPO Soars, Creating New Billionaires!
Enflame, a Chinese AI chipmaker and Nvidia rival, saw its stock surge by over 180% in its Shanghai market debut, minting two new billionaires. Is this AI rally sustainable?
Shanghai witnessed a spectacular stock market debut as Chinese AI chipmaker Enflame Technology saw its shares skyrocket, turning its co-founders into overnight billionaires. The company, often dubbed an "Nvidia rival" and one of China's "four little dragons," experienced a surge of over 206% on its first day of trading, capturing significant market attention.
Founded in 2018, Enflame is at the forefront of building advanced AI processors, a strategic move by China to bolster its domestic capabilities in AI model development. The company has ambitious plans to utilize the proceeds from its initial public offering (IPO) to fund the development and commercialization of its fifth- and sixth-generation AI chips.
This initiative is aimed at matching the performance benchmarks set by high-end international competitors, signalling a strong push in the global AI chip race. Despite its impressive market debut, Enflame reported revenues of 990 million yuan ($147 million) in 2025, an increase from 722 million yuan the previous year, but has not yet turned a profit.
This highlights the substantial investment and long-term vision required in the competitive AI hardware sector.
Enflame's success is reflective of a broader trend in the Chinese stock market, where tech hardware companies have emerged as key drivers of performance.
Earlier examples include chipmaker CXMT, which saw its shares leap by nearly 466% in its Shanghai STAR Market debut, making it a highly valuable listed company specializing in dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips crucial for some AI systems. The market's euphoric response to Enflame's listing, however, also raises questions about the long-term sustainability of such rapid rallies and the potential for market volatility in the burgeoning AI sector.
