SpaceX Secures $6.45B Space Force Deal as Massive IPO Approaches
SpaceX lands massive $6.45B in Space Force contracts for 'Golden Dome' and satellite tech ahead of its historic IPO. Is Elon Musk's space giant a safe bet?
SpaceX is headed for what could be the biggest IPO ever, and things are looking up for Elon Musk’s rocket company. Just recently, the U.S. Space Force announced it is awarding SpaceX a massive $6.45 billion in contracts. This huge payday comes right as the company prepares to go public next month, adding some serious momentum to its valuation.
The deal is split into two main parts. A whopping $4.16 billion is being set aside for SpaceX to build satellites for a new missile and air defense system, which President Trump has dubbed the “Golden Dome.” Earlier in the week, another $2.29 billion contract was announced for a communications network in low Earth orbit. These wins aren't exactly a surprise, given that SpaceX has dominated the launch market for years, but the timing is certainly noteworthy.
Interestingly, SpaceX’s own IPO filing shows just how much they rely on the government. In 2025, one-fifth of the company’s revenue came from government contracts. While Elon Musk has been a high-profile supporter of the Trump administration, even pouring $300 million into the recent election, the company is still warning investors. They’ve noted that their business is subject to the whims of changing government policies and funding levels.
As we get closer to the IPO, the buzz is only growing. There is even talk on betting platforms about a potential merger between SpaceX and Tesla, though that remains speculative for now. With a projected valuation of $1.8 trillion, SpaceX is quickly becoming much more than just a rocket company—it’s a central pillar of national defense.
