10 dead as fire engulfs trauma ICU in Cuttack, Odisha hospital
A massive blaze tore through the trauma ICU at SCB Medical College in Cuttack, killing 10 patients and injuring 16, with officials promising a judicial probe and compensation.
Ten trauma patients died and 16 were injured when a fire tore through the trauma care ICU of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in the early hours of Monday. The blaze is believed to have started around 2:59 am on the first floor, where critically ill patients were under ventilator and oxygen support, and it quickly spread through parts of the unit. A total of 23 patients were admitted to the ICU that night. Seven died inside the ward before rescue teams could reach them, while three others died later during treatment. Around 11 hospital staff members sustained burn injuries while evacuating patients, and five patients along with two hospital workers rescued from the ICU remain under observation.
