Over seven million brand new 10p coins, proudly bearing the portrait of King Charles III, are now making their way into circulation across the UK. This marks a significant moment as it's the very first time the 10p denomination will feature the King's image.

These eagerly anticipated coins started appearing from August 25th, entering people's pockets and wallets via post offices and bank branches. The Royal Mint confirmed that a total of 7.1 million coins are being released, comprising 600,000 dated 2023 and a massive 6.5 million dated 2026.

Their release is primarily driven by an increased demand for the 10p denomination.

While these new coins are a fresh addition, fear not for your existing currency! Coins featuring Queen Elizabeth II remain fully legal tender and will continue to circulate. This ensures a smooth transition, minimizing environmental impact and cost, as the Royal Mint carefully manages the introduction of new designs.

With King Charles III coins currently representing just about 1% of the staggering 24.142 billion coins in circulation throughout the UK, these new 10p pieces are expected to become highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Beyond the monarch's portrait, the reverse side of the new 10p coin showcases a beautiful design: the capercaillie bird. This choice is part of a larger collection inspired by the diverse flora and fauna of the British Isles, a thoughtful nod to King Charles's lifelong passion for conservation and the environment.
