Naidu Pushes Centre to Back Amaravati Capital Status in Parliament

In Delhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu pressed the Centre to back Amaravati's statutory capital status, urging that a bill be introduced in the second phase of Parliament's budget session. He cited the need for a clear legal framework to govern the state’s capital and development plans.
A state government official said the draft legislation declaring Amaravati as the sole capital with effect from June 2, 2024 has cleared the Law Ministry and is under consideration. Naidu told Union Home Minister Amit Shah that swift approval and timely introduction of the bill would help unlock governance and development momentum for Andhra Pradesh.
Beyond the capital issue, Naidu also discussed Centre funding and approvals for irrigation and water security projects, highlighting pending allocations and project clearances. He urged the Centre to permanently revoke the stop-work order on the Polavaram project, a priority for the state's water future.
Sources described the Delhi visit as part of a coordinated effort to secure central backing for Andhra Pradesh's development agenda, signalling a push for a clear, timely resolution on Amaravati that can benefit citizens, investors, and ongoing state projects as the budget session progresses.
