Harry Styles has officially kicked off his historic residency at Wembley Stadium, beginning a monumental 12-show run that will see him break the record for the most performances at the iconic venue on a single tour. The superstar took to the stage on June 12, treating fans to an unforgettable night while also paying a heartfelt tribute to the legendary artist David Hockney.
Hockney, whose painting of Styles was famously displayed at the National Portrait Gallery last year, passed away on June 11 at the age of 88. Styles honored the late artist by projecting a poignant quote on the big screens during his set: "What an artist is trying to do for people is bring them closer to something, because of course art is about sharing. You wouldn’t be an artist unless you wanted to share an experience, a thought.” It was a beautiful moment of reflection amidst the high-energy show.
This record-breaking residency surpasses Coldplay's previous achievement of 10 gigs at Wembley during their 'Music Of The Spheres' tour last year. The London dates are part of Styles' ongoing "Together, Together" tour, which started in Amsterdam in May and is set to continue with stops in major cities worldwide, including São Paulo, Mexico City, New York, Melbourne, and Sydney. Each city will feature a different supporting artist, and for his London debut, fans were thrilled to see Shania Twain warm up the crowd with a mix of her hits and new tracks from her upcoming album, ‘Little Miss Twain’.
As Simon And Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ filled the stadium, Styles made his grand entrance, launching into his set with ‘Are You Listening Yet?’ from his latest album, ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco Occasionally’. Between fan favorites like ‘Golden’ and ‘Adore You’, he shared an uplifting message with the ecstatic audience: “Our job tonight is to entertain you. Your job is to have as much fun as you possibly can. If you want to sing, if you want to dance, please feel free. Please feel free to be whoever it is you’ve always wanted to be tonight.” It truly set the tone for a night of freedom and celebration.
