Britney Spears has been charged with one misdemeanor count of DUI by prosecutors in Ventura County, California, stemming from a March traffic stop. Authorities say the pop star was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol shortly after 3 a.m. and was later released after being booked. Her arraignment is scheduled for May 4.
The incident drew attention after 911 audio records described the vehicle as a black BMW 2026 convertible with erratic braking, swerving and driving with no taillight.
A representative said Spears is taking the right steps and hopes for well-being, adding that her boys will be spending time with her as she moves forward with a plan for support. Earlier this month, her team confirmed she voluntarily checked herself into a treatment center.
This charge follows a well-publicized moment in 2007, when Spears faced a criminal trial after a paparazzi-related incident. She avoided that trial by paying damages after a collision was photographed as she attempted to park in California.
