Global Sting: India-Based Crime Syndicates Busted in Massive Raids

In a significant international crackdown, law enforcement agencies across the United States, Canada, and Europe have launched "Operation Hard Ball," targeting major India-based crime syndicates, including the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi network. The coordinated effort, spearheaded by federal agents in Los Angeles, resulted in the apprehension of approximately two dozen individuals and extensive seizures of contraband, firearms, and illicit cash.

The operation, which involved more than 50 raids, primarily focused on dismantling key factions of a transnational crime syndicate allegedly responsible for a range of violent activities. These include high-profile assassinations, multi-million-dollar extortion schemes, and large-scale cross-border drug trafficking. Authorities successfully seized a substantial cache of heroin and cocaine, multiple firearms, and tens of thousands of dollars in suspected illicit funds. Notably, the seized contraband included about 1,000 kg of cocaine and 1 kilogram of heroin, along with $40,000 in cash and a dozen firearms.

The sweeping indictment targets the criminal empire allegedly orchestrated by Lawrence Bishnoi, who, according to investigators, manages his global network from prison using smuggled mobile phones. One of the most serious allegations against the Bishnoi criminal enterprise is its alleged involvement in the assassination of a prominent Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia last year. The Canadian government had previously designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization, linking it to violent organized crime and other criminal activities.

"Operation Hard Ball" didn't solely target Bishnoi's alleged loyalists. The multi-agency task force, which included the Los Angeles Police Department and FBI, also focused on factions allegedly headed by Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Goldy Brar, as well as a sophisticated drug-smuggling network reportedly run by Ravinder Singh Dhanda. US investigators revealed that these syndicates were also involved in stealing large cocaine consignments from rival criminal groups during transportation via commercial trucking routes.

US prosecutors have emphasized a zero-tolerance approach towards such transnational criminal operations, highlighting the resolve of international law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle these networks that pose a threat across continents. The arrests and seizures mark a significant blow to the international operations of these crime syndicates.
