Gujarat Man Fights Deportation of Hindu Convert Wife: A Love Story Amidst Legal Battle
Heartbreaking plea from a Gujarat man to save his Bangladesh-born wife from deportation! She embraced Hinduism and they have two children. Their love story faces a legal challenge. #Gujarat #Deportation #HumanRights
Anand, Gujarat – A poignant plea has emerged from Anand district, where local resident Tarun Patel is fervently urging the Gujarat state government to halt the deportation of his Bangladesh-born wife, Kajal. Patel claims his wife has fully embraced Hinduism and fears for her life if she is sent back to her native country. Kajal was detained approximately two weeks ago, accused of residing in India without valid documentation.
The couple's love story began on Facebook in 2012-13, when Kajal was still in Bangladesh. Tarun, a resident of Lambhvel village, recounts how their connection grew. Kajal reportedly attempted to obtain a passport in Bangladesh to legalize their union, but her efforts were unsuccessful. Faced with family pressure to marry another, she made the difficult decision to enter India illegally, eventually making her way to Anand.
Upon her arrival, Tarun and Kajal married according to Hindu rites, and they have since built a family together, raising two children, aged eight and two. Patel emphasizes that Kajal has deeply integrated into Hindu customs, regularly participating in temple visits and community life.
However, their life took a dramatic turn when the Anand Local Crime Branch detained Kajal after discovering her undocumented status. Deportation proceedings are now actively underway. This incident comes amidst a broader crackdown by Gujarat police, dubbed "Operation Delta Hunt," targeting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Over 600 Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended across Gujarat this month alone, with nearly 60 detentions occurring in Anand district. Tarun Patel's heartfelt appeal to the Gujarat administration highlights the human element caught in the crosshairs of immigration policies.
