Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has clarified that there was no Tejas LCA crash this month. The incident, HAL said, was a minor technical issue that occurred on the ground. The company emphasized the aircraft’s strong safety record and said it is working with the Indian Air Force to analyse the issue and reach a speedy resolution. Fleet checks are underway as a precaution.
Media reports in recent days had described a Tejas aircraft returning to base after a training sortie, with signals of a suspected brake failure and a runway excursion that left the airframe severely damaged in some narratives. HAL’s briefing counters those descriptions, reiterating that what happened was not a crash but a ground fault being investigated.
The Tejas light combat aircraft, designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency and manufactured by HAL, remains in service with the IAF, which currently operates around 30 jets.
