A section of the DMK cadre and its allies staged a demonstration in Tiruchirappalli on Thursday to condemn the BJP-led NDA government for not allocating funds for Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget. About 500 members from DMK and allied parties gathered in front of a BSNL office for nearly an hour, waving placards and shouting slogans as they pressed their demand for greater state funding.
Leaders from DMK and its allies argued that Tamil Nadu has been shortchanged in the allocation process and urged the center to rectify the imbalance in future budgets. The demonstration was peaceful, with participants from several allied outfits voicing their concerns about key programs and development schemes that need adequate funding.
The show of strength comes as the budget debate unfolds at the national level, with opposition parties mobilizing at multiple locations to press their case.
