India’s Sleeper Revolution, Vande Bharat Overnight Train to Launch on 26th Jan
India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train set to debut on Republic Day. Faster, modern, and nationwide rollout announced.
Indian Railway's Vande Bharat Sleeper train will debut in January 2026. The first service will run between Guwahati and Howrah, marking a new era in overnight travel. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the rollout. He called it a game changer for passengers. Trials and certifications are complete. The train is ready for launch.
Unlike the current Vande Bharat Express, which focuses on daytime seating, the sleeper variant is built for long-distance overnight journeys. It will feature 16 coaches, including 11 three-tier, four two-tier, and one AC coach.

The government plans a nationwide expansion. Every state will receive at least one Vande Bharat Sleeper train. This ensures faster and more comfortable travel across India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off the inaugural run in the second half of January 2026. The train promises speed up to 180 kmph, combining efficiency with comfort.
Passengers can expect modern interiors, air-conditioning, and advanced safety features. The sleeper design will make high-speed rail accessible to middle-class and budget travelers.

This launch is more than just a new train. It signals India’s commitment to modernizing rail infrastructure. With sleeper services spanning the nation, Indian Railways is set to transform overnight travel. The Vande Bharat Sleeper is not just about speed. It is about accessibility, comfort, and national reach. 2026 will be remembered as the year India redefined train journeys.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced that 8 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are already in production. An additional 12 sleeper variants are expected to be completed by the end of this year. In short 20 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains by year-end, designed to make high-speed overnight travel accessible to wider sections of society. It represents a step toward inclusive modernization of Indian Railways.
