Rohit Pawar Questions Ajit Pawar Plane Crash, Demands Black Box Details

Rohit Pawar, a legislator from the NCP (SP), held a press conference in Mumbai to demand a thorough, independent probe into the death of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in a chartered Learjet crash on January 28 while he was en route to Baramati. He questioned the pilot's track record, pointing to a three-year suspension in the past for alcohol consumption, and pressed for a detailed look at the charter aircraft's maintenance and the company that owned it.

He questioned the handling firm VSR Company, the intermediary Arrow that booked the flight, and the pilot Sumit Kapoor. He alleged VSR wielded influence over DGCA and claimed the probe is moving too slowly. He said the family must be allowed access to the black box and demanded an international-style investigation by agencies including the National Transportation Safety Board, BEA, AAIB, along with Indian agencies. He urged cancellation of all contracts of VSR Ventures to prevent manipulation of the probe.

His remarks come amid broader questions raised by political leaders about the circumstances of the crash. He warned that the Crime Investigation Department would not have full authority to probe and pressed for involvement of international agencies to ensure a credible account of what happened.

Rohit Pawar also accused VSR Ventures of attempting to influence the probe and called for cancellation of the company’s contracts with the flight operations.

With the investigation ongoing, supporters argue that a robust, cross-border inquiry is essential to restore public trust, while critics caution against premature conclusions. The public awaits confirmed findings and a clear timeline for when the black box details may be released to families and the public.
