Tata Trusts revamps board: Neville Tata, Bhaskar Bhat join; Srinivasan term cut
Tata Trusts reshapes its board with Neville Tata and Bhaskar Bhat joining the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, while Venu Srinivasan’s lifetime trusteeship is shortened to three years under new Maharashtra rules.
Tata Trusts on Tuesday announced Neville Tata, son of chairman Noel Tata, and Bhaskar Bhat, a long-time Tata Group executive, would join the board of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. The move signals a governance shift in response to a Maharashtra regulation that caps the number of lifetime trustees. Neville Tata, 32, already serves on the boards of JRD Tata Trust, Tata Social Welfare Trust, and RD Tata Trust, and there is a possibility he could be brought onto the board of Sir Ratan Tata Trust, a key trust that, along with the SDTT, holds a controlling interest in Tata Sons. Bhaskar Bhat, IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, began his career in 1978 and later joined the Tata Watch Project, which evolved into Titan, where he served as Titan’s managing director for 17 years starting in 2002. At the same meeting, the board approved a change to Venu Srinivasan’s tenure, converting his lifetime trusteeship into a three-year term. The decision aligns with updated legal norms and underscores a commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance, and a more dynamic leadership model for the future. Officials did not comment on the potential additional appointments, but the move is seen as a step toward strengthening governance amid evolving regulatory expectations.
