Tamil Nadu shines with a 95.25% CBSE Class 12 pass rate, led by girls at 96.68% as regional and school-level details emerge.
Tamil Nadu recorded a 95.25% pass rate for CBSE Class 12 students this year, marking a dip from the previous year’s 98.48%. A total of 46,901 boys and 41,245 girls from the state appeared for the exams, with girls outperforming boys and posting a pass rate of 96.68% compared with the boys’ around 94%. The results were announced on May 13, 2026, as the national pass percentage stood at 85.2%.
Within Tamil Nadu, the Chennai region registered a 93.84% pass rate, sliding from 97.39% the previous year, and stood behind the Trivandrum region in the country’s ranking. The CBSE exams ran from February 17 to April 4, with 1,123 schools in the state participating across 357 centres.
Institution-wise performance shows Kendriya Vidyalayas leading with a 99.04% pass rate, followed by government-aided schools at 67.31%, government schools at 95.51%, and private schools at 95.19%. When broken down by category, 14,229 General Category students cleared with a 97.15% pass rate, 7,267 SC students at 92.15%, 512 ST students at 91.92%, and 61,954 OBC students at 95.23%.
