Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah has sparked a significant conversation by suggesting that China and the United Kingdom should play a role in resolving the long-standing border dispute between Nepal and India. During a session in Parliament, the 36-year-old rapper-turned-politician addressed the complex territorial claims involving the Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani regions.
The Prime Minister emphasized that since the root of these boundary issues traces back to the era of British India, it is only logical for England to be brought into the discussions. He noted that diplomatic notes have already been exchanged with New Delhi, and there is a proposal for both nations to form teams of historians and experts to settle the matter through dialogue.
In a surprising twist, Shah also acknowledged that the encroachment hasn't been one-sided. He stated that after taking office, he discovered instances where Nepal has encroached on Indian territories, just as India is accused of doing in Nepal. This statement has caused quite a stir among other lawmakers, some of whom have demanded a clarification or even the removal of these remarks from the official record.
The timing of these comments is particularly noteworthy as India and China are preparing to resume border trade through the Lipulekh Pass this June, following a six-year hiatus. Shah maintains that such matters must be resolved through clear diplomatic negotiations to ensure a stable future for the region.
