Trump urges Kyiv and Moscow to stop where they are after Zelenskyy talks

President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Friday for more than two hours of talks, a meeting that ended with him urging both sides to end the brutal war and halt further gains.

Trump suggested Kyiv might consider pausing its bid to retake territory lost to Russia, signaling a potential shift toward pressuring Ukraine to accept current lines rather than pursue more battlefield victories. During the talks he also indicated caution about launching new military moves, noting that too much blood has been shed and that the border lines should be recognized rather than redefined.

Later, after arriving in Florida, Trump told reporters the war should end immediately and implied that Moscow should keep the territory it has already captured, explaining that observers should use the battle line as the practical guide because the dispute is too complicated otherwise.

In recent weeks Trump has shown growing impatience with Putin and a surprising openness to helping Ukraine win, a departure from his previous insistence that Kyiv would have to concede land to end the war. These remarks come as Trump previously met Zelenskyy in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly last month, when he said Ukrainians could win back all territory lost since Russia’s February 2022 invasion, a dramatic shift from his earlier position.
