Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India on 4-5 December for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, where he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review the long-standing partnership and chart a path for deeper cooperation in defence, energy, and regional matters. The talks are expected to reinforce their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership and assess progress across multiple sectors.
A central focus of the defence agenda is the potential procurement of additional S-400 air-defence regiments and Sukhoi-57 fighter jets. India has already taken delivery of some S-400 units, with further deliveries planned by 2026-27. While no contracts are anticipated during the visit, the talks will explore broader collaboration, including joint production, technology sharing, and co-development of military systems as part of diversifying supply sources and reducing reliance on a single supplier.
Defence discussions come against a backdrop of delivery delays in several programs, including Sukhoi operations, which New Delhi intends to raise with Moscow.
