In a significant development, the Kerala High Court has directed the state police to provide protection to the viral ‘Kumbh Mela woman’, now an actor, and her husband, Farmaan Khan, during their visit to Madhya Pradesh. The couple is traveling to Madhya Pradesh in connection with a serious abduction case filed against Mr. Khan by the woman’s father.
The order for police protection comes after the couple reportedly received a chilling death threat, warning that they would be “shot to death.” This prompted them to petition the High Court for security, leading Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas to instruct the Station House Officer of the Ernakulam Central police station to ensure their safety. The court has scheduled the matter for July 10 to confirm compliance with the order.
Earlier this month, the Kerala High Court had granted transit bail to the couple, allowing them until July 3 to approach the Madhya Pradesh High Court for anticipatory bail. Mr. Khan faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, offences against Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes persons, and child marriage.
The couple, who reportedly married in March 2026 in Thiruvananthapuram and have since resided in Kerala, have been at the center of controversy surrounding their inter-faith marriage. The woman’s family has vehemently opposed the union, alleging that she was only 16 years old at the time of marriage and accusing Mr. Khan of engaging in “love jihad.” The Kerala Police are mandated to accompany them to Madhya Pradesh and then ensure their safe return to Kerala.
