Uttarakhand On Edge: Orange Alert & 12 Dead Amidst Heavy Rains ☔️

Uttarakhand is grappling with severe weather conditions, as incessant heavy rainfall has led to an "Orange Alert" being issued for three districts and has tragically claimed 12 lives across the state in rain-related incidents. The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) confirmed the fatalities, all reported on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, for Dehradun, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts on Wednesday. In response, district administrations have been instructed to remain highly vigilant and prepared for immediate action. A "Yellow Alert" has also been extended to the remaining districts, signaling heavy rain in isolated areas.

The past 24 hours have seen several locations across Uttarakhand pounded by extremely heavy rainfall.

Nainital district, in particular, bore the brunt with significant downpours. Rainfall figures highlight the intensity: Nainital city recorded a staggering 217 mm, Bhimtal 161 mm, Mukteshwar 140 mm, Haldwani 122 mm, Dhari 114 mm, and Kainchi Dham 105 mm.

Other areas like Kushyakutoli, Khansyu, and Betalghat also experienced substantial rain.

Further reports indicated heavy rainfall in other parts of the state, including 78.5 mm in Jhulaghat (Pithoragarh), 74 mm in Champawat, and 66.5 mm in Kaladhungi (Nainital district). This continuous deluge has raised concerns about landslides and further disruption, with some villages in Nainital already experiencing landslides and homes at risk.

While the focus remains on Uttarakhand's critical situation, neighboring Uttar Pradesh is also battling severe flooding. Although details are sparse, reports confirm that three people have died in rain-related incidents in UP, and over 16,000 individuals have been evacuated due to the worsening flood situation there.

Both states are facing the severe impacts of the monsoon's intensity, prompting widespread concern and calls for caution among residents.
