A devastating road accident in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district tragically claimed six lives and left 27 others injured on Sunday. The incident occurred when a North Bengal State Transport Corporation bus, en route from Siliguri to Cooch Behar, rammed into a parked truck at Ulladabri, approximately 8 km from Maynaguri.
Among the deceased was an 18-month-old boy, Bibek Saha. Police identified other victims as Pampa Saha, Jamuna Roy, Sajal Sarkar, Suvankar Sil, and Shyamal Chandra Barman. Eight individuals are currently in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the crash. All the fatalities and injured were passengers on the bus, and authorities have detained the bus driver for questioning.
Emergency services promptly transported all injured passengers to the Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) and the Maynaguri Government Hospital. Tragically, two passengers were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Following the incident, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee extended his heartfelt condolences via X (formerly Twitter).
