Marta Kostyuk has delivered one of the most emotional performances of her career at the French Open, winning her first-round match just hours after a missile strike hit dangerously close to her parents' home in Ukraine. The 15th seed, who has been a vocal advocate for her country since the conflict began, revealed that a strike destroyed a building only 100 meters away from her family's residence. Despite the overwhelming stress and the tears shed before stepping onto the court, Kostyuk managed to maintain her focus to defeat her opponent.

During her on-court interview, Kostyuk was visibly moved as she dedicated the victory to the people of Ukraine. She shared that it was one of her most difficult days, ranking in the top three worst experiences she has ever faced. "I don't want to talk about myself today," she told the cheering crowd. "All my heart and all my thoughts go to the people of Ukraine today."
