Alan Carr Transforms Castle Shed into Community Cafe! ☕👑

Comedian and recent Celebrity Traitors winner, Alan Carr, has unveiled ambitious plans to convert a neglected potting shed on his recently acquired Scottish Borders estate into a bustling community cafe and shop. This exciting development follows his purchase of the 19th-century Ayton Castle and its sprawling grounds earlier this year.

The Grade A-listed property, which previously had an asking price of £3.25 million, is now the focus of a new Disney+ programme titled "Castle Man." The show will document Carr's journey as he embarks on the adventure of owning and restoring the historic estate. Speaking about his new venture in January, Carr humorously remarked,

Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me, I want my very own castle.

Proposals submitted to the Scottish Borders Council detail the refurbishment of the single-storey stone structures situated at the edge of a former walled garden.

These plans are part of a broader vision to significantly enhance the visitor experience at the estate and demonstrate a commitment to properly managing and maintaining all its properties. The Ayton estate is already a popular spot, open to the public and frequented by dog walkers, ramblers, and nature enthusiasts, with dedicated paths leading past the potting sheds.

The local area currently lacks a community cafe, making this new establishment a welcome addition. Although not directly in Ayton village, the planned cafe is expected to draw customers from the village, which is just a five-minute walk away. The buildings are currently in a "dilapidated state" and will require "significant work" to bring them back to life.

The submitted heritage impact assessment confirms plans to include essential facilities such as public toilets, staff welfare areas, and storage.

Additionally, there's a long-term commitment from Carr to clear, repair, and invest in the magnificent walled garden.
