AIMIM breaks alliance in Bengal, to contest West Bengal polls solo

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has severed its alliance with Humayun Kabir’s party and announced it will contest the West Bengal Assembly elections independently. In a statement issued on X early Friday, the party said recent remarks attributed to Kabir had raised concerns, underscoring that statements questioning the integrity of Muslims cannot be associated with AIMIM. They stressed that they could not be connected to such positions.

The move comes amid controversy sparked by a video clip circulating online that purportedly shows Kabir claiming links with senior BJP leaders and discussing efforts to defeat the state’s incumbent government led by Mamata Banerjee.
