A US Air Force officer, known by his call sign “Bravo,” has shared his harrowing account of surviving for two days behind enemy lines in Iran after his F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down in April. The weapons-system officer endured a broken back, arm, and shoulder while evading Iranian forces before a daring rescue operation. The dramatic incident unfolded on April 3 when Bravo, alongside pilot “Alpha,” was flying over Iran.

Their F-15E was struck by Iranian fire, forcing an ejection. While Alpha successfully ejected, Bravo's parachute was damaged by a shoulder-fired missile, leading to a terrifying free-fall at speeds up to 100 mph.

At one point when I looked up and saw no parachute, that was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen,

he recounted to CBS News' 60 Minutes. He paused to pray, saying, "Lord, your will be done.

But if I'm getting through this, I need help.” Miraculously surviving the fall, Bravo found himself in a valley, severely injured. Despite his broken bones, he knew he had to reach higher ground to avoid capture.

Recalling his training, he said, “Never let a lack of motivation put you on Iranian TV.” He then embarked on an arduous climb up to a 7,000-foot ridgeline with only a handgun for defense, moving as quickly as his injuries allowed to distance himself from the crash site. While Alpha was rescued within hours by military helicopters under fire, Bravo's ordeal stretched for another 50 hours.

With Iranian forces closing in, his focus was to send a message back to base confirming he was alive: “God is good.” He spent another full day in the mountains with almost no water or food before US military forces could reach him.

According to CBS, the CIA played a crucial role in locating Bravo.
