Bengal Budget Boom: Big DA Hike & 1 Lakh New Jobs Announced!
West Bengal's new BJP government makes waves with its first budget, unveiling a significant DA hike for state employees and a massive plan to create 1 lakh government jobs. Dive into the details!
The BJP government in West Bengal has delivered its inaugural budget, bringing significant relief and new opportunities for the state's populace. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta announced a substantial 20 percentage point increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for state employees and pensioners, setting it to rise to 38 percent from October 1. This move aims to considerably reduce the existing disparity with central government employees' allowances, a long-standing demand that led to previous agitations.
Beyond the immediate financial boost, the budget also committed to filling one lakh government vacancies across various departments in a phased manner. This ambitious recruitment drive includes 20,000 positions within the police force and 50,000 teaching and non-teaching roles in schools, addressing crucial staffing needs. Notably, 33 percent of these new jobs will be reserved for women, and Agniveers will receive a 10 percent reservation where applicable. The relaxed upper age limit for government recruitment, extended by five years, will also continue for the next two years.
Addressing the state's financial health, Finance Minister Dasgupta acknowledged the inherited debt burden, estimated at over ₹8.15 lakh crore. He pledged the new administration's commitment to fiscal discipline and transparent governance. The government has also assured the continuation of all existing welfare programmes, with reforms planned where necessary to ensure benefits reach the most vulnerable sections of society. This comprehensive budget marks a new direction for West Bengal under its new leadership, balancing fiscal responsibility with significant welfare and employment initiatives.
