India Urges Peaceful Global Order as Murmu Delivers Republic Day Eve Address
President Murmu's Republic Day eve speech champions peace, highlights Operation Sindoor, women empowerment, and India's 2047 development vision.
In New Delhi on the eve of the 77th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu spoke about India's role as a messenger of peace in a world scarred by conflict, stressing that global harmony is essential for humanity's future.
She anchored this peace drive in India's civilisational ethos, noting that prayers for peace have long guided the nation and that Vande Mataram, cultural self-confidence, and democratic governance underpin a growing economy.
On national security, Murmu lauded Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of defence preparedness and self-reliance, describing precision strikes against terror infrastructure and the destruction of terror centres as evidence of India’s indigenous capabilities.
Drawing on personal experiences with the armed forces, she recalled visits to the Siachen Base Camp, sorties in Sukhoi and Rafale aircraft, and aboard the submarine INS Vaghsheer, to illustrate the people’s trust in the military and the ability to advocate peace from a position of strength.
Beyond security, the President highlighted progress in poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, and economic growth, underscoring a digital, self-reliant path toward transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
Murmu urged citizens to participate in the mission of making India a developed nation by 2047 and to uphold democratic ideals, recognizing the contributions of national heroes and the ongoing pursuit of a modern, inclusive India.
She announced Padma awards 2026, including posthumous Padma Vibhushan recognitions to actor Dharmendra and former Kerala Chief Minister Achuthanandan, as part of a broader celebration of national contributions.
