Kishan Reddy labels Telangana municipal polls a BJP-Congress showdown

BJP senior leader and Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, has framed Telangana's upcoming municipal elections as a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress, insisting that the BRS is now nowhere in the picture. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, he accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of making false and misleading statements about central funding and claimed his remarks were driven by growing BJP support among voters. Reddy asserted that the BRS had lost public confidence and had “collapsed,” adding that voting for the party would be like throwing a vote into the Musi river. He also alleged that both the Congress and the BRS were attempting to sway voters by distributing large sums of money. The Union Minister challenged the Chief Minister to present a detailed account of his government’s achievements and progress on election promises from the past 12 years. He called for a judicial probe into the BJP’s Makthal municipal ward candidate Erukala Mahadevappa and warned against using the BJP as a tool to target others. Reddy said action would follow if the government proceeds with the arrest of former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in connection with alleged phone-tapping and other irregularities from the previous regime. He claimed irregularities during both parties’ tenures would be investigated if the BJP comes to power and accused the Congress and BRS of mortgaging the honour of Telangana people to Darussalam. The BJP leader reiterated his offer for a public debate on central funding to Telangana over the past 12 years, either at the Secretariat or the Press Club. The statements come as Telangana gears up for municipal polls amid heightened security and political maneuvering.
