Rahul Gandhi Questions Huge Voter Deletions in Delhi Slum! #BelaEstate
Rahul Gandhi raises serious concerns over the deletion of 99.8% of voters in Delhi's Bela Estate. The EC cites "demolished homes." What's happening with democratic rights?
New Delhi is abuzz with political debate after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the Bela Estate slum cluster, spotlighting what he termed a "massive voter deletion" issue. Gandhi expressed grave concerns after reports indicated that only one voter's name remained on the draft electoral roll for a specific booth in the area, out of an original 728, implying a shocking deletion rate of nearly 99.8%.
During his visit, Gandhi directly challenged the Election Commission (EC) over these significant discrepancies. He criticized the poll body's actions, stating,
Only one of 728 remains. This means 99.8% of the voters from here have been deleted from the voter list.
This raises critical questions about electoral integrity and the democratic process, particularly ahead of upcoming elections.
The Election Commission has, however, provided a different explanation for the deletions. Sources from the EC indicated that the large-scale removal of names from the electoral rolls in the Bela Estate area was due to the demolition of homes. According to the EC, these voters were removed because their residences no longer existed, suggesting a procedural reason behind the significant drop in registered voters.
Rahul Gandhi didn't mince words, taking to social media to further amplify his concerns.
He remarked that while Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar "will go," the "system that made him do this will also have to answer." This statement points to a deeper critique of institutional practices and decision-making within the electoral framework.
The incident has ignited a wider discussion on voter rights, electoral roll accuracy, and the transparency of the deletion process, especially in vulnerable communities like slum clusters. #VoterDeletion #RahulGandhi #DelhiPolitics #BelaEstateVoters
