Timothy Busfield Indicted in New Mexico on Four Counts of Child Sexual Contact
Busfield, known for West Wing and Field of Dreams, faces four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child under 13; he denies the allegations and vows to fight.
Timothy Busfield, the actor known for West Wing and Field of Dreams, has been indicted by a Bernalillo County grand jury on four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child under 13. The charges are tied to his work as a director on the Fox TV series The Cleaning Lady from 2022 to 2024. Busfield has denied the allegations and his attorney has said he will fight the charges at every stage.
Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced the indictment in a social media post, and Busfield had previously turned himself in to authorities in January on related charges. He was released from jail after a judge found no pattern of criminal conduct or similar allegations involving children in his past. The grand jury indictment allows the case to move toward trial without a preliminary courtroom hearing on the state’s evidence.
Stein, Busfield’s attorney, said in a statement that the detention hearing had already exposed fatal weaknesses in the state’s evidence, adding that the defendant will fight these charges and test the State’s case in open court. Prosecutors declined to comment on what specific accusations were presented to the grand jury. An Albuquerque Police Department investigator noted that a boy reported the alleged incident on the set, though details remain under review as the case proceeds.
