Nigel Farage's campaign against the World Health Organization (WHO) is officially relocating its base to the United States, sparking debate about the Reform UK leader's involvement in an American pressure group. The "Action on World Health" initiative, co-founded by Farage, is setting up shop in the US state of Delaware as a charitable foundation and grassroots non-profit.
As part of this significant move, the campaign has enlisted new board members. Among them are Andy Wigmore, a long-time friend of Farage and fellow Brexit campaigner, and Gerry Gunster, an American lobbyist and political strategist who previously worked on Farage’s 2016 EU referendum campaign. Farage himself serves as the honorary chair of Action on World Health.
The group's core mission is to advocate for the replacement of the WHO, an organization they contend is overly influenced by China, "compromised by private funding," and leans "far left." The decision to move the campaign to the US and specifically solicit donations in dollars follows Farage's notable increase in visits to the US since July 2024, reportedly making at least 10 trips.
The campaign's website is actively seeking donations via payment card or US bank accounts. It also offers a feature for individuals globally to email their politicians to voice opposition to the WHO, though it conspicuously lacks an option for UK citizens to contact their own representatives. This move comes as the US, under former President Donald Trump, previously withdrew from the WHO, which plays a crucial role in coordinating global responses to pandemics and other health crises. Despite the US relocation, the campaign still retains London-based board members, indicating a continued connection to the UK.
