Discover Gets a Makeover: Google Pushes More Creator Content
Google reveals a redesigned Discover in its Search app, letting you follow publishers and creators to tailor your feed. Soon you'll see articles, YouTube Shorts, and posts from X and Instagram, with sources on the way.
Google revealed on Wednesday that it is redesigning the Discover page in its popular Search app, enabling you to follow particular publishers and creators to see more of their work. The change comes after Google introduced a feature last month that lets users select which news websites and blogs to display in the Top Stories section of search results.

In the coming weeks, Google says people will also begin to see different kinds of content on Discover including articles, YouTube Shorts, and posts from X and Instagram from writers and publishers from across the web. In the future, Google will layer in more types of sources, it stated. With these actions, Google is trying to give users more control over their content, while also expanding its discover page to provide a broader binder of content sources.

However, it is uncertain what criteria Google uses for creator content to appear on the Discover page. When you would like to use the feature, for content from a certain publisher or creator you see, you can click on the name to see all their content on a one-page view, plus submit a follow option. Google said it will show you more content from articles you follow, too.

These announcements have come as publishers are seeing their traffic drop significantly due to Google’s AI search. Google even launched a product called Offerwall to allow publishers to generate revenue other than from ads. For creators, this transition could provide new pathways to expand their reach beyond traditional social media platforms. Since relationships across the Discover platform already expose tens of millions of users to original content, Simply having something featured in Discover should lead to significant exposure and traffic.
This move comes as Google faces increased competition for social apps where users are spending more time consuming short, creator-focused content. With the increased attention to creators on the Discover platform, Google is signaling that it's recognizing changing user habits and wants to keep pace in relation to the relevancy of its own platform to discovery.
