Zankov's Spring 2027: A Cosmic Blend of 60s Mod, Soviet Chic, and DVF's Future!

Fashion designer Zankov is sending us on a journey to the future with his Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear collection, fresh off his debut for Diane von Furstenberg. While many designers simply look back, Zankov is exploring what happens when the past meets an unprecedented future, drawing inspiration from the iconic 1960s space age and the profound changes of that era.

He ponders what we would wear for such a monumental leap forward, much like his predecessors Courrèges and Rabanne did decades ago.

The collection's very title is inspired by the song “Le Tourbillon,” a tune whose "cigarette-smoking romanticism" transported the designer back to his childhood in Soviet Russia. He fondly recalls his mother's "ineffable mod style," featuring purple corduroys, mohair sweaters, and metallic platform shoes, elements that clearly influenced this vibrant new line.

Purple is undeniably a star color in this collection, cutting across a swatch of green in an opening look and appearing in paneled basketball-length shorts that are sure to be a hit. Metallics also make a dazzling return. Zankov, known for his shimmering paillettes, has reimagined them with a new "disco ball sheen." Expect to see them as scarves tied around the waist or peeking out from a dress hem.

The designs are playful and bold: a fuchsia pink button-down is layered under an orange paillette-laden vest, paired with a sparkling cream skirt. Another standout is a metallic miniskirt styled with opaque black tights and open-toe velvet sandals, giving a strong "go-go" vibe that hints at a "future of twee."

Interestingly, Zankov has now moved his eponymous brand into the DVF headquarters in New York's Meatpacking District.

He sees operating both brands from the same building as a "left brain, right brain split," yet finds it exciting to see them converge, as evidenced in a vintage-inspired jacquard quarter-zip sweater under a printed wrap shirt.

His design philosophy is all about "mixing things together", providing "tools for every season." The Spring 2027 collection promises a blend of funk, cool, and a hopeful vision for a stylish tomorrow.
