The woman, reportedly a BJP worker, is named as a key accused in one of several cases linked to the incident, and authorities say eight to ten women officers were deployed in anticipation of trouble. The police insist there was no misconduct and that every effort was made to preserve decency; they say the woman resisted custody, and local people helped by providing a change of clothes while officers repeatedly asked her to cover herself. A deputy commissioner of police has been directed to conduct a detailed inquiry covering events from January 1 to January 5.
