Google is making a significant move to empower students and educators globally, rolling out advanced AI tools specifically designed for exam preparation and offering free access to its premium AI services for college students.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Google AI Pro will be available for free for one year to eligible college students in the U.S., including perks like Gemini Spark, higher usage limits, and a generous 5TB of storage. For college students outside the U.S., Google AI Plus will be offered for free, providing enhanced usage limits and 400GB of storage. Additionally, users can look forward to discounts on Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium.
These new offerings aren't just about free subscriptions; they include a suite of innovative features aimed at personalizing the learning experience. Students will gain access to a dedicated Student Hub to organize their studies, utilize Study Notebooks for bite-sized, personalized plans, and engage with Gemini Live for discussions and deep research. New Google Search learning tools are also integrated to make finding and understanding information more efficient.
Sundar Pichai himself underscored the breadth of these new capabilities with a quiz on social media, highlighting that Google Search can now assist with test prep for a wide array of exams including SAT, ACT, AP, ENEM, GRE, JEE, LSAT, MCAT, and NEET.
Educators are also set to benefit. Google is bringing custom tools and features to Google Classroom, allowing teachers to track student progress in real-time. The Classroom app, powered by Gemini, integrates education and AI tools to streamline teaching and learning. Google's overarching goal, as stated in a blog post, is "to bring lessons to life in the classroom and support personalized study at home, while keeping teachers in the lead."
The rollout of these transformative AI tools and study features will begin gradually, initially targeting U.S. college students before expanding to a global audience. Students and teachers interested in leveraging these resources will need to check their eligibility and register through Google's dedicated student hub.
