The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has announced a significant development in the ongoing NEET-UG 2024 case, stating that no evidence has been found to establish the involvement of Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhiya. Mukhiya was initially named in the First Information Report (FIR) by Bihar police due to his suspected complicity in other examination paper theft and leak cases.
Bihar police had detected the paper theft in 2024 and registered a case, subsequently transferring the investigation to the CBI. Sanjeev Mukhiya was identified as a suspect early on, leading to his inclusion in the FIR. He had remained absconding during the initial phase of the NEET-UG probe but was later arrested by Bihar police in connection with other cases.
Given his status as a named accused in the NEET-UG FIR, the CBI took him into police custody for examination. However, the agency's thorough investigation, which involved identifying every person involved in the theft and distribution of the stolen question paper, as well as every candidate who benefited, ultimately found no link between Mukhiya and the NEET-UG 2024 scandal.
Consequently, the CBI did not file any chargesheet against Sanjeev Mukhiya in the NEET-UG case, allowing him to avail bail. The agency clarified that despite his release in the CBI's case, he remains in judicial custody for other cases being investigated by the Bihar police. The CBI also emphasized that any current narratives suggesting a "deliberate omission" regarding Mukhiya's role are "factually incorrect," having been adequately clarified in 2024 itself. The investigation has led to multiple chargesheets being filed against 45 individuals before the jurisdictional court in Patna.
