Amarnath Yatra: New Batch of 6,700+ Pilgrims Departs Jammu!
Another massive wave of over 6,700 pilgrims, including women and children, embarked on the Amarnath Yatra from Jammu under tight security. Over 20,000 have already left for the sacred shrine!
A fresh wave of devotion swept through Jammu as over 6,700 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp early on Sunday, July 5, 2026, destined for the sacred Amarnath shrine nestled in the South Kashmir Himalayas. This latest batch, comprising 1,310 women and 22 children, set off in two separate convoys at 3 a.m. and 3:40 a.m., operating under stringent security measures.
This marks the fourth contingent of pilgrims to leave Jammu for Kashmir since the yatra was ceremonially flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on July 2. With this recent departure, the total number of devotees who have embarked from the Jammu base camp has now reached 20,220, showcasing the immense faith associated with this annual pilgrimage.
The annual 57-day Amarnath Yatra, which officially began on July 3, has already seen an overwhelming response, with over 26,000 pilgrims paying obeisance at the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine during its first two days. Pilgrims are undertaking the journey via two main routes: the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter, 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district. Of the recent batch, the first convoy, carrying 2,590 pilgrims in 152 vehicles, proceeded towards the Baltal base camp, while the second, larger convoy with 4,131 pilgrims in 139 vehicles, made its way to the Pahalgam base camp.
Amidst the massive influx of devotees, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued an important advisory. Due to all registration slots being booked until July 9, unregistered pilgrims are strongly urged to postpone their journey for a few days. Starting Sunday, July 5, 2026, only registered pilgrims will be permitted to proceed to Kashmir, with unregistered individuals being halted at designated checkpoints until fresh registration quotas become available. This measure aims to manage the unprecedented crowds and ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
