Trump Launches 'AI Force' After Calling AI Concerns a 'Hoax'

Former President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he is forming a new “AI Force” to oversee the development of artificial intelligence, a move that comes just days after he dismissed concerns about the potential threat posed by the technology as a “hoax.”

In a social media post, Trump stated his intention is not to “hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry.” Instead, he aims to “cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!” He compared the new initiative to his previous “Space Force,” which he called a “tremendous SUCCESS” during his first term.

Trump also revealed plans to appoint an AI “Czar,” specifying, “Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!” This announcement follows the departure of venture capitalist David Sacks, who served as Trump’s AI and crypto czar until March. Sacks reportedly “used up” his 130 days as a special government employee and has since joined the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

His latest declaration contradicts earlier remarks where he blamed “Radical Left” Democrats for propagating “hoaxes,” including concerns raised by industry insiders that AI could lead to humanity’s end within a decade. Trump had previously stated he would not “stand by and let this happen,” viewing AI as “the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet,” and predicting it could impact as much as “25% of our Country’s GDP.”

The announcement quickly drew criticism. Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts responded on social media, emphasizing the need for “meaningful regulations on AI to protect people,” rather than just forming another committee or having drawn-out discussions.

Recent polls indicate public dissatisfaction with Trump's handling of AI; a YouGov survey found 55 percent disapproved of his efforts, and a University of Massachusetts Amherst Poll reported 57 percent believed he hadn't handled the issue well.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump also floated potential alternative terms for “Artificial Intelligence” in a social media poll, suggesting names like “Superior Intelligence (SI),” “Extreme Intelligence (EI),” or “Supreme Intelligence (SI),” asking his 13.1 million followers for their input. Social media critics quickly reacted to this, with one user remarking, “Just when you think Trump can’t think of anything more stupid to do……” accompanied by a clown emoji.
