Céline Dion's Grand Return: Paris Residency Kicks Off with Couture Glam!

After a six-year hiatus, global superstar Céline Dion made a triumphant and emotional return to the stage last night, kicking off her much-anticipated 26-night residency at Paris’s Plenitude Arena (formerly the Paris La Défense). This momentous occasion follows her 2022 diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome, making her comeback even more inspiring.

Opening with “On Ne Change Pas” and closing with “Des Milliers de Baisers,” the show was a celebration of her hits and an affirmation of her enduring spirit. True to the city of couture, Dion's wardrobe was a spectacle of custom pieces from Paris's most renowned fashion houses, showcasing her iconic style and resilience.

The principal look of the night was a dramatic custom-made black Dior gown, designed by Jonathan Anderson. Featuring a strapless bodice and a tiered skirt with layers of sheer pleated fabric, the dress created a petal-like pannier silhouette, subtly referencing Christian Dior's historic “Francis Poulenc” gown from 1950.

This choice was fitting, given Dion's long history with Dior, including a hand-embroidered gown she wore for the Paris 2024 Olympic opening ceremony just two years ago.

Her accessories were equally sentimental, including a Boucheron diamond known as the “Address,” inspired by the octagonal shape of Place Vendôme in Paris, home to the jewelry house's historic flagship. Speaking to the diverse audience, Dion expressed her gratitude: “There are many of you here tonight from all over the world.

Thank you so very much for coming.

If it's your first time in Paris, I hope you fall in love with it, just like I did.

Finally, it's amazing we are all together.”

Throughout the evening, Dion continued to pay homage to Parisian couturiers. She graced the stage in a custom-made Alaïa molded leather bustier paired with a long velvet skirt, and later in a sculptural Schiaparelli look inspired by an Elsa Schiaparelli jacket from the late 1930s.

She also donned a cut-out dress and a dusty-pink cape embroidered with shredded organza by Sarah Burton for Givenchy, and a shimmering high-cut black dress by Haider Ackermann for American label Tom Ford.

Reflecting on her journey and return, Dion shared a powerful message with her fans:

I made a promise. I made a promise to come back, to be back on stage. So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing life!
