India Signs Pax Silica, Boosting AI and Electronics Sector
India joins the US-led Pax Silica alliance at the Delhi AI Impact Summit, aiming to strengthen AI-powered supply chains and lift electronics and semiconductor industries.
India on Friday signed a declaration to join the US-led Pax Silica alliance, aimed at bolstering resilient supply chains for critical minerals and artificial intelligence, at the ongoing AI Impact Summit in Delhi. The Pax Silica framework seeks to enhance technological cooperation and promote secure access to resources for next-generation industries, with a key pillar aimed at creating a durable economic framework to drive AI-powered growth across partner nations. 'We recognise that a reliable supply chain is indispensable to our mutual economic security,' the Pax Silica declaration states, underscoring the forum's broad ambitions for security and prosperity across AI-enabled markets.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said Pax Silica would greatly benefit India’s electronics and semiconductor industry. 'India has become a part of Pax Silica. This will greatly benefit India's electronics and semiconductor industry,' he said after the declaration was signed. He added that the first semiconductor plant in the country will begin commercial production very soon, with ten plants already established in India and more in development as part of the rollout.
The initiative brings together member nations including Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the UAE, and the UK, signaling a broader push to deepen economic and technological cooperation across supply chains. The move also comes as India and the US work to finalise a proposed bilateral trade deal and advance other initiatives to strengthen ties after a period of tensions, highlighting a shared interest in stabilising and modernising critical mineral and AI-related supply networks.
