The hike, which comes into effect on Wednesday, July 1st, will add approximately £221 to annual bills for many families already grappling with the ongoing cost of living crisis. The news is a fresh blow following previous increases, putting further pressure on household budgets.
However, there's a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Experts from Cornwall Insight, a leading energy consultancy, are forecasting that the autumn period might bring some stability. They predict that there will not be another steep hike in October, largely due to a decline in wholesale energy costs. This forecast offers a degree of reassurance that the worst of the price volatility might be behind us, at least for the immediate future.
The rising energy costs are a major concern for millions across the UK, leading to growing consumer energy debt.
